Welcome to Dodgerslist! So glad you’ve joined us all. We’ve got valuable information we’ve gleaned from the vets Dodgerslist consults with and our own experiences with IVDD since 2002 to share with you! The single most important care is the very STRICT rest for 8 weeks so the disc can heal. Clarissa CAN be a good candidate to heal her disc with conservative treatment if you are able to commit to strict rest AND if your vet can be knowledgeable enough to get that still current pain under control by using actual pain medications. Call your vet now today and STRONGLY ADVOCATE for the usual pain meds. NEVER ever have any patience with pain! Meloxicam IS NOT A pain med since it can take 7-30 days to finally resolve all painfully inflamed tissue. Pain meds work in an hour!
Please contact your vet ASAP to advise of the pain that you're seeing. Advocate that any of the pain meds be given 3x/day (every 8 hours). —Methocarbamol works on the pain of muscle spasms. — Tramadol is the general pain reliever. — Gabapentin works on nerve pain. There should be no sign of pain from one dose of meds to the next. Have no patience with pain as it does hinder healing. Look for your dog to be acting their normal, perky self when pain is fully under control round the clock. Make sure you are in the know about conservative treatment. As a last resort if your vet not comfortable in using meds, not comfortable in his knowledge about IVDD, then the consult with the specialist is to get meds on board your vet won't. BUT DO NOT WAIT til the 11th. That simply is not fair to Pez to remain in pain for so long. ROADMAP TO CONSERVATIVE TREATMENT Print it out for your fridge so you can recogize maybe well intentioned but harmful advise for Pez. dodgerslist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/Roadmap-for-Fridge.pdfSETTING up the RECOVERY SUITE for STRICT rest dodgerslist.com/2020/05/14/strict-rest-recovery-process/ As usual, always qualify your source of information from anyone. So vet us, PLEASE!! Know more about us and comments veterinary professionals make: dodgerslist.com/about-team-dodgerslist/ We are very worried about the pain you are reporting for Pez. Please let us know as soon as she gets pain meds on board.

Hi! Pez is on those three treatments that the vet gave has given us and I just added the CBD treats before she got the new medicine(CD/Gabapentin). She is currently in her cage resting with food/water and a pee pad.

Is Pez now pain free? Pain will only slow the healing process. Vets have many ways to manage pain. If you are seeing any signs of pain at all let the vet know as soon as possible so that pain meds can be adjusted.
