Welcome to Dodgerslist, Krista. So glad you’ve joined us all. We’ve got valuable information we’ve gleaned from the vets Dodgerslist consults with and our own experiences with IVDD since 2002 to share with you. You have a pain emergency that must be addressed with the vet ASAP this morning. Pain hinders healing so have no patience with it. We need more information concerning the meds to properly advise you about dosages but the vet definitely has room to adjust the meds to get pain under control. Often times it takes three pain meds to get the three types of pain under control: Tramadol as a general pain med so that can be added, Gabapentin for nerve pain and Methocarbamol for the pain of muscles spasms. As for the Gabapentin, how many mgs are in one ml? Gabapentin works best when given 3x/day (every 8 hours). As for the Methocarbamol, how many times a day is it being given? Methocarbamol also works best when given 3x/day (every 8 hours). As for the Vetprofen, what date was that started and for how many days is that to be given?
Whenever an anti-inflammatory such as Vetprofen is given, stomach protection must also be given. Ask the vet if your dog have any health issues to prevent use of Pepcid AC (famotidine)? (doesn't need it, we wait til there is problem…are NOT answers to your question!) If you get a "no health" issues answer, then go to the grocery store to purchase over the counter Pepcid AC containing one single active ingredient (famotidine). (NOTE: Pepcid AC (famotidine) for dogs is 0.44mg per pound 30 mins before the anti-inflammatory and thereafter every 12 hours. www.1800petmeds.com/Famotidine-prod11171.html ) You can add some water to his canned food to help him get enough water. I would also mention his not drinking water to the vet. I don't see that as a specific side effect of Vetprofen but you should check with the vet. What was the date strict crate rest was started? Was it on 3/4 when you first saw the vet? When you carry Luigi out to potty, you should use a sling to prevent his hind end from falling over. His hips falling over could lead to further damage of the spine. i.ibb.co/K7HNj10/slingwalk.jpgKnowledge is the power to fight the IVDD enemy and win!!
