Yes that's what he was doing last Friday but he's no longer doing that [knuckling]! I'm waiting for the vet to call me back about the pain meds now that I can report the change! I am picking him up and taking him outside to potty and bringing him in. I will try covering the crate with the blankets. I have the calming music playing all day and I have the diffuser going during the day and at night so our nights have been pretty restful. It's when he hears the garbage trucks, our neighbors dogs barking when he gets worked up. I've asked family members who stop by to text me when they arrive so he doesn't get riled up! Thank you!

Maybe try a white noise machine to mask sounds that agitate Reece?
Talk to neighbors and let them know Reece is recovering from a back injury and hearing their dogs bark upsets him. Perhaps they could make an extra effort to curtail it.

Good Evening!
After speaking with Reece's vet yesterday evening, he discontinued the Methocarbamol.
New med regimen:
Gabapentin-100mg-2X/day Rimadyl-37.5mg-1X/day Famotidine-.5g-2x/day
[Moderator's note: please do not edit Weight: 18.2 lbs Rimadyl 2/16 by dog’s DVM, Stopped on 2/17 by ER Dex injection 2/17 at ER due to loss of back leg function TOTAL Days: 2 on an anti-inflammatory (taper days do not work on swelling ! Prednisone as of 2/18 at ER taper dose: 5mg 1x/day; last taper dose 2/26 Rimadyl as of 3/4: 37.5mgs 1x/day for ? days. Gabapentin 100 mg ▼2x/day Methocarbamol STOPPED on 3/4 Famotidine .5g 2x/day]
He wants to keep it simple. Although he's no longer knuckling, he's still wobbly when he goes out to potty.
Also has anyone heard of Nzymes for Dogs?

Keep an eye out for pain emerging with the stop of Methocarbamol. Reece may be just fine without it but if you see signs of pain let the vet know that the gabapentin alone is not controlling pain.
The fact that he is not knuckling is a nice indication that his nerves are healing. With time, he may start to walk more steadily. A lot of us have had dogs that went through a wobbly "drunken sailor" phase while healing.
I have not heard of Nzymes but I looked it up and it is seems to be a supplement for digestion. When a dog is taking prescription medications like Rimadyl and gabapentin it is especially important to make sure that any new supplement does not interfere with these medicines. If the supplement has side effects, as some do, it may be difficult to tell if the prescription drugs or the new supplement is causing the problem. If you would like to use supplements, consider waiting until Reece is off the prescription meds.

My thread is on here if you’d like to read it, but I started giving Apollo nzymes a few days ago. No adverse effects for my dog so far. He takes one tablet a day. I would consult with your vet first before ordering and giving them to your dog of course.

Twyla, for how many days will Reece be taking this new course of meds until all meds are stopped to test for pain/swelling?
I'm a bit confused about the dosage of the Famotidine. We usually see 5mg 2x/day being given (5mg 30 min before the Rimadyl and then every 12 hours thereafter). Was .5g a typo?
