Bradley you are just the best dad! I love hearing all the little things you are doing to care for your Tucker and make the crate rest go smoother. Good Job!!! It sound like Tucker is showing you very good nerve repair with more stability and using all 4 legs!

Sorry I have had the flu and haven't had time to update. It has been pretty nasty. Tucker got his stitches out on 2/19/2018 and surgeon-directed PT.
From 2/19/2018 Tucker will remain on crate rest for two more weeks. After two weeks. He can have access to a small room ( I plan to make his ex-pen larger) of the house and then a level of the house for the following 4 weeks. ( during this whole time, no access to stairs or furniture). While outside, in 2 weeks, Tucker can begin going on 5 minute walks a couple times a day and each week incrementally increase by 5 minutes. In 8 weeks, Tucker can have off-leash activity.
Tucker is doing wonderful and has full ROM in both back legs. He his tail is fully functional. Dr said he will make a full recovery. Thanks Paula, I try to make these guys my world as they comfort my pain of having a traumatic brain problem. Tucker was the first to pick up on me having these issues and I owe everything to making the little guy whole.
I just realized today He has done all this from surgery on without any steroids. That it my eyes is a bit of a trooper. As of today, the guys can fully walk. He just needs to wait out his crate rest and the mandated therapy I posted earlier today. Tucker is amazing. One thing that Tucker has loved, and this might not work for all your woofers, is a heating pad. Wow, did he love that.... on low and warm. Kills anxiety he switched sides on his own, and he always told me to turn it back on daddy. LOL. But of course, if you have a cord chewer..... you want to stay away from a heating pad. Maybe a hot water bottle. Of if you got a chewer. Good Luck?

Bradley what a wonderful thing that you can take care of each other the way you do! Tucker is for sure having a great recovery. When time permits, do keep us updated on things.

Will do, I know this is the slow down period since we are just in crate rest and PT. But he is in excellent condition and has exceeded the surgeon's expectations hence the reasoning behind the untraditional therapy. The surgeon thought it the ruptured disc was bad when he was in there, but didn't expect him to recover this well he said at his checkup. I thanked him for his magic. Cause that is what it was, pure magic.

Bradley, I'm so glad that Tucker is doing so well. He's lucky to have you!
Off the subject, but I wanted to say, "Thank you for your service and the sacrifices you made for us!"

Just popping in to say Tucker is doing very well and is currently on week 7 since surgery but week 5 since his stitches were taken on and put on surgeon directed PT. During this time. I have taken the time to crate train all four of my dogs so they sleep in their crates at night. We will not be having a Tucker moment again. They all four now soundly sleep in their crates at night and stay in them when we leave the house which should have done from the start. My wife and I notice we get better sleep as well. I will check back in a few weeks when Tucker is all done.

Great news about Tucker. Graduation day approaches. When it is here, Tucker will need to gradually build up muscles and stamina. We have some information about ways that can be done here. www.dodgerslist.com/literature/AfterCrateRest.htmThe idea of crate training your dogs is an excellent one. Then if a situation arises they will not have to adjust to a crate on top of whatever else is going on. And you all can sleep soundly.

Tucker, is non-stop. There was no gradually building anything. He actually started walking from day 12 with both legs. One thing that I never told anyone is that we introduced CBD oil into his treatment for an anti-inflammatory. I Take it for my migraines and it works wonders. Also for my sciatica. He never went back on prednisone after surgery. I believe in the CBD oil and I believe it helped Tucker get back to his feet quicker than normal. He is trained not to do things like jump on and off the couch, go up and down stairs now. He also knows when slow mean when he is running and he goes slower.
So Yeah! Graduate!

Congratulations on Tucker's graduation! You both have made it through. I guess Tucker thinks he waited long enough to get moving.
Some of our other members have used CBD oil and found it helpful.
