Emily, I'm so sorry the gene did pass on to so many in the litter. Serious breeders who breed for the betterment of the breed seriously study genetics and keep very accurate records to try and breed that gene out IVDD...that is what makes them good breeders. Still some of the litter may not escape the gene. This is an unpredictible disease...we need a cure for it!
Give a potty break
-- timing depends on which anti-inflammatory. every 3-4 on a steroid, every 4-6 on a NSAID.
--Allow a couple of minutes for pees/poops. If nothing then carry back and try again in an hour. There is no doubt that use of a ex-pen or wire poke in the ground makes all the difference in curtailing sniff fests. Without the visual and physical of the fence, dogs will just want to do more steps that is healthy for a healing disc. Fence is magic, they quickly learn when set down and given command to "go potty" they actually short cut things and poop or pee.
Thank you so very much for helping us to educate about disc disease by passing out our literature!!!
Do invite your mom, aunt, brother, and family friend to join us on the Forum where we can tailor comments to the exact dog's needs.
We are seriously looking for a helping hand in several areas. Share the below information where you can:
There are only less than a handful of us who regularly volunteer every day helping dogs and their owners. We could really use assistance from other Forum members in educating.

Upload a photo of your dog with a caption to our photo gallery as inspiration to those just starting the IVDD journey. In the Fall the photos will become a calendar where some will end up in vet offices. Remember, too, to get your camera out for a graduation picture and a few sentences for the 2018 Dodgerslist Photo Gallery:

Hand carry our literature and introduce us to your vet. When in conversation at the grocery store line or wherever you meet breeds most prone to IVDD (Dachshunds, Beagles, Poodles, Spaniels, Shih Tzus, Pekingese, and Chihuahuas) to give out our little cards. Ask Linda to send you our free packet:
