QUESTIONS
☆ 1 ☐can’t find a comfortable position, appears restless ☐Not their normal perky selves
☆ 2 36 LBs 1. Gabapentin 100mg- 3 capsules every 12 hours for 7 days 2.Methocarbamol 550mg-1.5 tablets every 12 hours for 7 days 3.Prednisone 20mg tablets every 12 hours
B.. If on a steroid….Start date: 1/14/2020
[Moderator's Note. Please do not edit 36lbs prednisone as of 1/14: 20mgs 2x/day for ? days, then a test taper to reveal any: _pain / _neuro methocarbamol ?mgs in one tab? ?mgs 2x/day gabapentin 300mgs 2x/day needs GI tract protector, Pepcid AC, on board w/predisone!
C.. PEPCID AC? No, will do!
☆ 3 -- Eating and drinking are good. Poops are normal color and consistency but seemingly less frequent.
☆ 4 Luna is a Cardigan Corgi, my name is Kate.
☆ 5 Vet 1 DVM (day of injury): Said it was a disk issue but was non-specific Vet 2 DVM (Next day emergency room): Said it was "phase 3 IVDD Vet 3 DVM ( 3 days after injury, we were consulting with a new vet that possibly would offer laser therapy): Said it was likely a herniation
☆ 6 What was the date you saw the vet for CONSERVATIVE treatment? 1/13/2020
☆ 7 No she cannot, partially due to back leg paralysis. The first couple days we were finding wet bedding and poop in her bed. Now she seems to have a little more control, but often leaks when we lift her to go outside or when the towel compresses her tummy. Otherwise she seems like she is trying to wait until we put her down, wrap the towel under her low back, lift, and say "go potty". She also has been waiting to poop when we are outside.
☆ 8 No, tail only moves when pooping or when checking anal tone at the vet. Back legs are limp.

Kate, welcome to the Forum. I'm sorry Luna is dealing with a disc episode. Outside of the single most important care for the disc of 100% STRICT crate rest 24/7 only out of the recovery suite for a very, very few footsteps at potty time, getting that pain fully masked by proper pain meds is key. Pain is best masked with a 3-way pain med and each Rx'd for every 8 hrs. Pain meds begin to leave the body at about the 8 hrs mark and the current every 12 hrs explains why you report seeing pain. PHone your vet to avoid risky car transport to report your specific observations of pain so that on the phone the vet can prescribe for every 8 hrs. Vets who know IVDD know things when they can be handled over the phone is best for the early healing disc. Is at some point a surgery somthing that is an option for your family? For how may days is pred at 20 mgs 2x/day prior to tapering below the anti-inflammatory dose? The taper is the time to test for pain and new/increased neuro issues. That is why the length of the red course is iimportant information to know. How many mgs are in one whole methocarbamol tab? Can you get Pepcid AC on board by the morning after asking in this most specific way: Does my dog have any health issue to keep her from Pepcid AC (famotidine)? Proactive vets don’t wait til there is lip licking of nausea, not eating, vomit, diarrhea leading to serious bleeding ulcers, red or black blood in stool due to the extra stomach acids anti-inflammatory drugs cause. Pepcid AC (famotidine) blocks the production of acid. The usual dose of Pepcid AC (famotidine) with a disc episode is 0.44mg mg per pound every 12 hours. Pepcid AC has a very limited potential for side effects. Doesn’t need it, we wait til there is problem…are NOT answers to your question! If you get a “no health” issues answer, then go to the grocery store to purchase over the counter Pepcid AC containing one single active ingredient (famotidine).
HEALTH ISSUES: “Mar Vista Vet reports: Pepcid AC has a very limited potential for side effects, the reason of release to over-the-counter status. The dose of famotidine may require reduction in patients with liver or kidney disease as these diseases tend to prolong drug activities. There have been some reports of exacerbating heart rhythm problems in patients who already have heart rhythm problems so it may be prudent to choose another means of stomach acid control in heart patients.” marvistavet.com/famotidine.pml Keep a keen eye on leaking on you and finding urine leaks in bedding. UTIs can develop fast in a day or so if bladder control were to be lost and Luna is not then being expressed. Dogs who have bladder control can sniff an old pee spot in the yard and they make the decision to release urine there. While on pred with extra thirst you may need to carry her to and from the potty place about ever 3-4 hrs to keep her from having to pee in her bed.
