Hurt back or neck?
Hello. I'm looking for help with my doxie. She came out of the bedroom acting hurt. Head down a bit and hunched a bit. She will walk but doesn't want to. I have her resting and keeping her from moving. Shes not shaking or whining just looks uncomfortable. What can I expect if I take her to vet and can she go tomorrow if not better or should I go right now? What will they do? My ver is over an hour away. There is one closer but I don't trust their skills. What should I ask for and expect 😪

Hi and welcome to the Forum. I'm Paula, we just go by first names...what's yours? Until you know for sure it is not a disc episode, the prudent thing to do is to crate at once. Limited movement of the back and the neck are critical to avoiding this progressing to possible paralyzed limbs, loss of bladder control. Tips, supplies in getting the recovery suite quickly available for Roxie: www.dodgerslist.com/literature/CrateRRP.htmThe reason for getting to the vet as soon as possible, is IF this is a disc episode, an anti-inflammatory can get started right way to begin the work of getting rid of all spinal pain and swelling over the course of 7... up to 30 days. Head down and a hunched back are signs of pain...with a disc episode the spinal cord is aggrevated by a bad disc and the cause of surrounding swelling. If possible I would take my dog in. Sounds like classic signs of possibly a neck disc. Same information would be still good for a back disc dog. Read over so you know IF, if this is diagnosed as a disc episode you know what to expect for meds, and the extra things you can do at home, etc. www.dodgerslist.com/literature/cervical.htmAnswers here: www.dodgerslist.com/literature/healingswelingANSWERS.htmThe guest board is a temporary Guest courtesy to get immediate help until you can register. Update on Roxie. I drove her to a recommended vet and he felt it was a minor injury but advised to be cautious. We got pain meds and anti-inflammatory. She is on crate rest too. I'm keeping a very close on her. She ate a little breakfast and drank some water this am. Thank you so much for your help. This is a wonderful place. Oh and my name is Brandy.
[Moderator's note: please do not modify weight? name of anti-inflammatory as of 11/17: ? mgs ?x/day for how many days?, BEFORE test-for-pain tapering name of pain med (s) ? mgs ?x/day Pepcid AC ? mgs twice a day ]
10/16: TUE 11:15 PM FB message: A little stiff on one side of her neck. Got some pain meds and anti inflammatory meds Blood work was good and he didn't see a need for x-rays. She will be on strict crate rest for a few weeks

Brandy, what was prescribed exactly? We LOVE details-- mgs, frequency, dates, exact names of meds.
What date did Roxie start the meds? Name of each med, how many mgs each dose and how often do you give? Did you also get the OK to use a stomach protector --- Pepcid AC (famotiine)?
So the vet did not think the signs were of a disc episode. He did not think it a neck disc when he examined?
Is Roxie inside of a recovery suite now until you are certain you are not dealing with a disc episode? It takes 8 weeks to heal a disc, not "a few weeks"
Thank you for registering!
