I did not have the same results with Dr. Chauvet's office! My dog went down on Friday and was taken to his primary vet Friday morning after the accident and Saturday for additional medication due to pain. Sunday morning we contacted the emergency number on her business card and website due to a decline in his neuro status. Due to her lack of response (she never called back) we decided to contact the office. We were told she was busy and that since he was on medication management already we could just make an appointment for Monday. She finally returned my phone call Monday morning at 8:30a.m. and stated she would just see us at our appointment at 11. When we arrived for the appointment that Monday morning with our paralyzed dog, she greeted us and sent in her intern who was unsure of her assessment. We went from having the MRI and surgery one minute to 30 minutes and $600 dollars later, him only having a 50% chance of walking. The money was not an issue but $600 was spent for labs and a chest X-ray that were completely unnecessary for an improper assessment which surgery was not recommended. We basically felt discouraged from having the surgery due to a lack of it being successful. AGAIN Money was NOT the issue, we expected to drop $6000!!! I did choose not to put him through the surgery and yes, that was my choice I made considering the information provided to me. I committed to him living as a paralyzed dog with a cart as long as his quality of life was good. I was initially against this idea before reading the Dodgerslist.
Not ONCE did Chauvet come into the room or discuss anything with us even though we expressed a desire to speak with her. We asked about numerous medications listed here on the website and they were totally not receptive to any medications we requested. The dog was in a great deal of pain over the next day and when we called their office back to inform them of his status change they basically said there was nothing they could do for him. Again we were told that Tramadol and Gabapentin were the same medications and Carafate and Pepcid were the same (all information which was incorrect). They would NOT give us any additional medications and told us to contact our Primary vet. We took him to his primary vet on Wednesday and they were the ones who gave us the medications recommended on this website. She may have a good reputation with some but definitely not with all. My dog was seen in her office on Monday and euthanized on Friday. Your dog, your choice. Blue Pearl in Brandon could have been and should have been my first choice.
Since Bobo is unable to share his story, I feel I should speak for him so others can make an educated choice about where they take their pets in an emergency situation.
