Hi,
My five year old mini dachshund just had back surgery on 2/9. If anyone has a question about vets in the Seattle area, costs, breakdown of fees, etc., let me know. I'm not a vet, so I can't offer medical advice. I just wanted to try to help out. It's a very stressful situation for all, and the cost packs a serious punch.
Here is my experience so far: (I am extremely pleased with my dachshund's recovery, and with this surgical clinic)
I used the Animal Medical Clinic of Seattle (Washington state), located in Shore Line. My dachshund was diagnosed with a ruptured intervertebral disc (L1-2, right side) Procedure: Hemilaminectomy Medications: Fentanyl patch, Tramadol, Methocarbamol, and Clavamox
....And the cost: $4,572.82 She spent two nights with them. I could call 24/7 and talk to a vet tech or a vet for updates. That was great. The surgery itself was $1,500. The rest of the charges were for X-rays, myelogram, and medication. I will break this down further if anyone has more questions.
I really do highly recommend these guys - very professional, skilled, and compassionate. Please feel free to respond with questions or advice. I am new to this, and need all the help I can get!

Thank you so much for this! I had my guys surgery done last July at SVS in Kirkland and it was $6600. He's gone down again and I don't think the pain is manageable at this point and he may need surgery again. Saving almost $2K and getting awesome care is a great reason to go to Shoreline to visit Animal Surgical Center. Thank you so much for the referral!
I'd love to get more info if you have it. At this point with conservative crate rest, I've already spent over $1500 in 3 weeks. It's killing me to see him hurt and then to spend all this money and nothing is getting better...

I wound up at SVS in Kirkland. I paid about $6k this time around. They do the MRI (est. $1800, I think it was) and any other testing I needed. I went in through emergency as the only other way is to have your regular vet refer you there which could take a while to get in. Dr. Sanders and Dr. Powers are both super awesome.
