What did the vet do for your dog with IVDD? My dog was just diagnosed and looking for a specialist with IVDD. Thank you, Daisy

Hi Daisy, I'm sorry to hear about your dog's IVDD. It is stressful at first, but my dog has made a full recovery and I'm sure Elvis will be back to normal soon as well I did not do the surgery route. Instead we did eight (actually about 10-11) weeks of crate rest and a long, slow recovery process after the 10 weeks. I don't believe Dr. Bradley is an IVDD specialist, but she is very knowledgeable on the subject (MUCH more so than the other vets I visited). I'm not sure where you are with your dog's care, but I'm sure she could recommend a neuro vet if it came to that point (hopefully not!) I recommended Dr. Bradley here because she was very aggressive with the prednisone, painkillers, and muscle relaxers, and that seems to be a hard thing to find in a vet. She also gave Gabapentin, which helps with nerve pain. I couldn't even get other vets to give an anti-inflammatory and they didn't seem to know which other drugs to give. I asked them all (based on recommendations from dodgerslist), but aside from some low-dose painkillers, I couldn't get them to prescribe effective meds/doses. Dr Bradley gave high doses, which sounds scary but actually helped keep my dog calm and pain-free while his back healed. She gave tips on how to hold him properly, help him relieve himself, what to feed, dosage/timing of medication. Fortunately, we did not need more than meds and crate rest, but she did tell me there are additional steps they can take if it came down to it. While she didn't specifically recommend 8 weeks of crate rest, I asked her about it and she supported my decision to do it (based on reading dodgerslist). I'm glad we did because my dog hasn't had a big back problem since. I also live in Denver (not Littleton) and the doctor was very accommodating with phone-call check-ins, mailed medication, etc. She called several times throughout the process to check on my dog. I even cried in her office on his worst day and the whole staff was very sweet and helpful in bringing my dog to and from the car/in and out of the clinic/opening doors, etc. There are four vets in the clinic, so make sure to specify that you want to see Dr. Bradley. She is the owner of the clinic as well. I hope that helps and I hope your little guy gets better soon! Good luck! Beast and I will be thinking about you.
